How I started creating my art
My inspiration came from looking around my home; small knick knacks, large sculptures and so many more objects that are sentimental and remind me of special moments in my life. This made me think how everyone owns a lot of common and special objects which sit and get dusty. I wondered: how can I give these objects a new purpose? Put them to use? I took my fathers favourite plates which were made by a famous Venezuelan ceramic artist, and started tracing the shape on paper. I developed it further and combined different sizes of plates, cups and other materials around me, like plastic cups from restaurants, in order to create a larger image.
The concept of the masks I derived from life experience, as well as teachings and lessons from professionals and people who I know too well. I noticed how my close friends would behave differently in public, versus at home with me or versus when they look in the mirror and speak to themself. I figured, people have many layers and each layer is a mask that covers/protects oneself from showing too much of your inner thoughts and feelings. This is one of many interpretations I express in my art.
The beauty about art is that it can be interpreted many ways. It is so unique to everyone and relates to any person differently. I would like you to tell me your interpretation. Who and what do you see in my art? What emotions does it evoke in you? Do you relate to a specific time and point in life? Tell me more.
