Creativeinterpretations of masks

Marie Andrée was born in Vienna, Austria. She grew up very close to art. Her father, Jorge Goncalves Romero, is also an artist who introduced her to the world of art. Marie is currently creating a series with figures of all kinds of people, as well as some prominent characters such as Frida Kahlo and Rigoberta Menchú.

The paintings reflect the different faces that the human being exhibits. She began her path as an artist with the painting titled “One woman and three masks” in which she uses her passion for psychology as inspiration. The color of the geometric figures and the symbols converge and complement each other. Yet the contrast between the light and dark represents our light and shadow sides.

What mask do you wear?

Psychology being her field of study, she is inspired by humans' inner life where all of us are wearing masks. Also, she is motivated by her frequent trips over the world. Although she has spent most of her life in Austria and the USA, her cultural heritage also brings Latin America into her art. She has participated in celebrations where indigenous people continue the culture of masks as a form of expression full of symbolism, color and mystery.
