A solo exhibition in the Palais Salm in Austria
13 December 2023
The walls of the gallery were adorned with the vibrant expressions of iconic figures, both classical and contemporary, each bearing a mask that invited viewers to delve into the layers beneath the surface. I took the audience on a journey through the captivating world of icons and their masks, offering a personal interpretation.
The exhibition, was a visual feast for art enthusiasts and curious minds alike, showcased portraits of timeless legends such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Coco Chanel. These familiar faces, celebrated in classical, pop culture, and recent times, served as both canvas and muse for the exploration of identity, persona, and the masks we wear in society.
The canvas became a mirror reflecting not just the outward appearance of these icons, but also the essence they embodied. I Amed to bring a interpretation into these familiar faces, inviting viewers to question preconceived notions and discover the humanity behind the fame.
The exhibition drew a diverse crowd. The gallery space buzzed with energy as visitors engaged in conversations about the meaning behind the masks, sharing their own interpretations and reflections on the iconic figures presented.
The highlight of the evening was a heartfelt speech delivered by a fellow artist Rachel Mohawege. The words echoed through the gallery, expressing gratitude for the artist’s ability to unravel the layers of fame and reveal the vulnerability that unites us all. The audience was not just witnessing art; they were participating in a collective exploration of identity and self-expression.
Live music added another layer to the sensory experience, with talented musicians Laura Aya and Jairo Morales Duo providing a soundtrack that complemented the visual journey. The harmonious blend of sight and sound created an immersive atmosphere.
Support came not only from art enthusiasts but also from friends and family who gathered to celebrate. As the night unfolded, it became clear that this exhibition was not just a display of art but a celebration of connection and shared experiences. I’m happy being able to share my art with everyone. I’m looking forward to the exhibitions next year.
